SUBANG JAYA, 27 April 2024 – Salcon Berhad, in collaboration with Water Watch Penang (“WWP”), has once again organized the award-winning water conservation and awareness programme, the Salcon Smart Water Programme (“SSWP”). This event, held today at the Taman Lembah Kiara, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, welcomed a troop of 40 passionate students and 4 teachers from SMK Damansara Jaya.
With a shared goal of promoting environmental responsibility and water conservation among today's youth, this initiative aims not only to raise awareness but also to inspire students with the knowledge and tools necessary to champion the safeguarding of our precious water resources.
The SSWP is held along Sungai Penchala and involves various engaging activities designed to deepen the students' understanding of water conservation. Under the guidance of experienced facilitators from WWP, participants conducted several hands-on practical water tests, gaining valuable insights into the quality and health of our local water ecosystem.
“We are grateful to Salcon for the opportunity to participate in this programme. My students enjoyed this morning’s session and were actively involved in hands-on activities. I hope that with these fun experiences, it not only enriches their understanding but also empowers them to become passionate advocates for water conservation", said Ms. Ayuni, teacher at SMK Damansara Jaya.
To measure the program's effectiveness, pre and post-program evaluations are conducted to assess students' water knowledge enhancement and identify areas for improvement. This data-driven approach ensures continuous refinement of the SSWP curriculum, enhancing its educational outcomes.
Ms. Chern Meng Gaik, Salcon Corporate General Manager said: “As we celebrate Salcon's 50th anniversary, initiatives like this reflect our enduring commitment to environmental stewardship and water conservation. By actively engaging with today's youth, we not only raise awareness but also foster a culture of sustainable action”.
Salcon is also proud to announce a series of our Train the Trainers programme for a group of teachers from schools across the Lembah Klang area scheduled on May, 4th. Through this cascading approach, we aim to empower teachers with the essential skills and knowledge to spearhead water conservation programmes for their students.
